Dragon Queen

So I tend to be a snob about watching whatever before reading the book, but that's basically all I do since I've never been a big reader, especially now that I'm in full-life-absorbing-school.
The result is a pregnant Daenerys Targaryen. I finally watched the Game of Thrones series this past Christmas, because like Lord of the Rings, I found the first 10 minutes too boring to continue. But also like LotR, I am a major fan of everything I saw in the film, story, cinematography, characters, etc..

Girl Scouts

So this is the brain-child of my boyfriend and I. Let me explain.
As we were listening to NPR one Sunday afternoon, we heard them once again diving into historical archives, specifically in the 1950's American Girl Scout area. They were going over instructions for fire building and somewhere in there was the mentioning of "little white gloves." This set off sexist jokes between my boyfriend and I, with a Kate Beaton/Mad Men mentality. But since the Loyolan (Loyola Maymount's student newspaper) likes comics that are slightly in better taste, boys doing everything for little girls changed to laservision. Thus....


There are a few more comics I've done/will do that I may post.
Meanwhile...I'm a fan of my attempt at 50's-inspired illustrations.

Superboy and the Lion

I'd like to make this post specifically as a way to record this wonderful day. The Animation Club and I hosted a professional's panel at my school. It went well especially since it was centered on TV with people from Warner Brothers and Titmouse, specifically Mike Macasero, Lauren Montgomery, Mel Zwyer, Phil Bourassa, Jay Oliva, and Jeremy Polgar respectively.
It was great, fun, and as always, very insightful. I learned a lot and simply got more pumped as a result to continue pushing myself in animation.

Here's a thank you card I got to make for Phil Bourassa who designed this, and the rest of the characters from the show, Young Justice.

Sketchy Stef

Here are some sketches of me I did over the Christmas break. Didn't really bother to use any reference outside of what I already know about myself and my looks and how I felt when I woke up around noon every morning -

I've always had a hard time trying to find a satisfying way to draw myself quickly. I'm not sure if this is a common issue for those who have characters for themselves but I'm not sure if I'm missing the design and not really understanding my face shape and such, or if I'm simply not trusting myself to stick with a final design. Oh well. Which one most resembles me? (I hear it's either the top left or the top right one)

Holiday Drawing

Finally back from a fast Fall Semester at school. Yesterday I spent some time with my bestie from High School who now attends CalArts. It's nostalgic, overwhelming and always fun to see her and have her tell me about her experiences in the same field as me. It inspired me but again, in an overwhelming way.
Thus I decided to submit a piece I had started over the summer that reflects me in the state that I am now and where I'd like to be. I was at once battling this idea over in my head but I now understand that I create new characters to express where I am as an artist and a person for periods of time.

She is currently sexy yet nameless, but that will most likely be fixed soon since I'm a fan of naming things!

Psychopomp Cat

Here's a character sketch for one of the main characters in my film. This is the psychopomp cat that leads the other main character to a fantastical world. I'm in charge of animating this character and its forced me to learn a lot about quadrupeds and cat tails. The bonus to having to do research almost every time that I start a new animated shot, is cat videos. Lots and lots of cat videos.
If anyone can find some decent walk cycle videos, please send them this way!

My Sophomore Animation

Here are some storyboards for my sophomore animation project. The assignment is a 2 1/2 minute animation, complete with dialogue, sound effects, and a soundtrack. This assignment is also the first group project for animation majors, and I'm happy to say that my story got chosen to be one of a handful of projects to be produced--which means-- that I'm directing it (on top of many other things).

My group has divided the storyboarding work depending on the characters that we animate and how involved they are in those scenes. So this is part of the intro scenes, which has lots of cat (the one I'll be animating).

I might eventually reveal what the story is or I might just wait until it's done, we'll see......
